  1. Dear Kaneesha ,
I have just seen the movie and seems to be pretty interesting as it actually potrays the reality and doesnt only rely on what the book tells the child .... it's a must watch :)

  2. Hi Kaneesha, I watched the movie over the weekend. For me it raised many questions.

It seems like the root cause of many of the problems facing the developing world is in fact poverty. One way that poverty can be alleviated is by providing a higher level of education. However as in the film, we can see that poverty itself can disrupt the attainment of an education.

Sometimes it seems like the problem is just too big and we dont know where to start.

Where do we start? What can we as individuals do?

  3. True, poverty hinders the possibility of gaining education. For the achieving of the IInd MDG - Education For All, the Ist and probably the most important MDG - Poverty needs to be tackled.
Governments, especially those of the LEDC's are baffled about the same question: Where do we start?
An answer to that would probably be creating awareness amongst the people of the world.
Evoking feelings of empathy in the people of MEDC's and the ones who are better off as compared to the ones who are suffering.
Education plays a huge role in achieving the reduction of poverty. But when poverty becomes the cause of the decline of education, how rather what will bring the change, needed to reduce poverty.

  4. I would strongly agree with the secong solution given by kaneesha as with educaion comes skill and with skill cme jobs which reduce poverty . although i disagree with the first solution , i think it would be a short term solution as they are not going to survive their whole life with the money given by the MEDCs and how long would they give them money ? for once or twice not more than that ! i think EDUCATION is the main solution ! :-)

  5. I think that poverty relates to a persons life terribly, as she said people don't like sharing, and that is true its human nature, but they need to be strong in hope for a better tomorrow as it is said at the end. yeah i know there might not be a better tomorrow as the world doesn't work together. i think helping building up schools isnt enough. this video explains everything clearly, it tell us how just a small persons life is among millions of others who are like her. i think you have put across a good explanation of how poverty is. :)

  6. Poverty is the main issue in the world today. I think this is lack of co-operations between countries. There is a big difference between MEDCs and LEDCs countries as there are people who are too rich (in MEDCs) and/or too poor(mainly in LEDCs). Education plays a main role in this case as in poor countries people are uneducated and doesnt know the value of education and so doesnt want their child to study. Also they cant even afford to pay for educating their child. So i think the government should aware the people the value of education in poor and developing countries. I have seen some of the movies in the site. And in my opinion its a very good site to show people about what problems our world is facing today and how should we solve it!

  7. i think poverty will never come to an end. It's something that you can't stop. It keeps increasing everyday. i personally think that it is very hard to eradicate poverty totally, it can be reduced by a small percentage. i also think that education is very important, because then people will understand more about this problem and they themselves will try to do something. If people will be educated then they will try to find a simple job by themselves and not depend on others to give them money. This also relates to the increasing world population. In my opinion the more people are born, the more poverty will increase. i think The governments should put a rule everywhere that education is a must.

  8. Poverty is a worldwide problem. Every time you think of poverty, the places that come to mind are Africa and Asia. This is not true. Even in MEDCs there are areas that are equivalent to or even worse than some of the poor countries in Asia and Africa. It is not possible to eradicate poverty in just a few years. In my opinion, even the time limit set by the MDGs isn’t plausible. Ten years have been used up of the time limit and next to nothing has been done to even limit poverty. I don’t think that the MDGs are going to be achieved anytime soon. Not much has happened in the ten years so you might as well wait a little more.

  9. As agreed by most of us, Education is one of the main issues to be dealt with in order to achieve this MDG. It is true that it is difficult to achieve the ' 'eradication of extreme poverty' goal in a period of less than 5 years.
The video mostly explains it all.
As I repeat, education is one of the biggest factors that can contribute to the eradication of poverty.
The goal is definitely far from achievable by 2015, so the question is how can we contribute to make even a little change for the world, to eradicate poverty.

  10. kaneesha, this is a really good video to get the message across, it also tells us tht v should take action against this nd tht 824 million ppl who go to bed starving and tht 24000 ppl dying of hunger every 4 seconds... even though poverty is a worldwide problem people still dont take it in account... how would v try to let everyone around the world to know this situation and help to solve it?

  11. because even if v try the majority of poor people hav lack of education which would make it even harder to give them a better life...

  12. I think that education is not the only thing that causes poverty, natural disasters can also cause poverty. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods. These natural disasters mostly affect less economically developed countries but they do affect more economically developed countries. Poverty is caused by these disasters because many people loose their lives and their jobs, crops are damaged and etc. But of course natural disasters can not be stopped.

  13. thanks @mauni shah but could you please re-post that comment of yours on the new post for poverty where the causes question is asked.

  14. I think the impact of natural disasters is greater in LEDC'S. But the disaster itself doesn't cause poverty. Does it?

Surely it's more to do with global distribution of wealth?

  15. It's all about ignorance because if people are ignorant, they will never want to get educated or educate. And because of this they have no options and are left suffering from poverty. What we need is awareness to build a smarter generation. Gone are those days where we have to start working for food from a young age. We need every child in school.

  16. Not many people in the world get to go to a good school or get education, this can cause and lead to poverty in the futre.
